Biography —
I am a microbiology laboratory coordinator at the University of Kansas. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Biology at KU and am currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration at the University as well. During my undergraduate degree, I worked as a lab assistant for undergraduate biology and worked many jobs in the service industry to pay my way through college. I had the opportunity to Study Abroad in Cape Town, South Africa working as an intern for a local non-profit public health organization that promoted the education of local teenagers learning about teen pregnancy, contraception, and domestic abuse in South Africa. This internship gave me experiences that ultimately led to my passion for education and helping others. I am a trained volunteer for the Kansas Suicide Prevention Head Quarters. In my undergraduate education, I was a part of the University Treble Choir. Through my study abroad program, I was a proud recipient of the Gilman Award which has allowed me to continue my professional career by staying in touch with other Gilman Alumni. Currently, in my roll at KU, I am involved in the DEI Committee for Undergraduate Biology, I am assistant teaching Biology 105, and am a part of the undergraduate biology event planning committee.
Beyond Academics, I enjoy living in Lawrence with my partner and rescue puppy, Izzy. I love growing my houseplant collection, watching my favorite comfort shows on Netflix (The Vampire Diaries), reading, and building Legos! Yes, you are never too old for Legos! My favorite season is Fall and my favorite holiday is Halloween.
