Over 60 undergrads from Molecular Biosciences majoring in Biochemistry, Microbiology, and MCDB gave poster presentations of their research at the 28th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium, held on Friday, Apr 25, 2025 at Gray-Little Hall. There were over 120 posters from undergraduate researchers from across KU, from the natural sciences, social sciences, engineering, and pharmacy. KU faculty and graduate students served as poster judges.
The return to the in-person poster sessions of the KU Undergraduate Research Symposium was facilitated by the Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowship (CURF, Dawn Tallchief), and supported by the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (Dr. Maria Orive), Molecular Biosciences (Dr. Roberto De Guzman), Medicinal Chemistry (Dr. Zarko Boskovic), School of Pharmacy (Andre Faucher), Chemistry (Lindsey Roe), and Undergraduate Education (Anna Balmilero).

Syracuse is on the far western end of Kansas. It's over 6 hours drive to KU. We are glad Domanic decided to be a Jayhawk.Grace Haugh (Junior, BS Biochemistry) invited her parents from Olathe, Kansas, to her poster presentation of her undergraduate research project.Mom and dad of Madison Pham (Senior, BS Biochemistry) drove 2 hours from Salina, Kansas to attend the undergraduate research presentation of their daughter.Biochem juniors and seniors stayed after their poster session for a fun photo-op.Ashley Simpson (Junior, BS Biochemistry) from Des Moines, Iowa; Allison Babbit (Junior, BS Biochemistry) from Lawrence, Kansas, and Sawyer Schmidt (Junior, BA Biochemistry) from Augusta, Kansas, stand by the research poster of Ashley. When not doing biochemistry, Sawyer runs long distance for the KU Track & Field, Allison makes jewelry, and Ashley bowls for the KU Bowling ClubReed Hodges (Junior, BS Biochemistry) from Arkansas City, Kansas and Katherine Lenz (Junior, BS Biochemistry) from Winfield, Kansas stand by their research posters before the symposium begins. Reed likes to exercise and watch movies in his free time. Outside of coursework, Katherine is an avid violinist, and you can see her playing in several music groups around Lawrence.Parnian Arafi (Junior, BS Biochemistry) from Isfahan, Iran; Allison Babbit (Junior, BS Biochemistry) from Lawrence, Kansas; Anna Baklanov (Junior, BA Biochemistry) from Leawood, Kansas at their posters.
