Position Announcement

Job Title:  Forestry/Habitat Technician- 2 positions available. 

Expected Employment Timeframe:  June 1- August 1, 2017.  (Possibility of longer employment could be available.)

Position Overview:  These positions will be assisting in conducting natural resource management activities throughout eastern Kansas and eastern Nebraska.  Home base operation is based out of Robinson, Kansas.  Frequent overnight travel is expected to specific job sites with hotel expenses provided.  A majority of the work activities will be outside, so weather will dictate working days.  No work will take place on Sunday’s. 

Benefits: Hourly wage $12.00 per hour- overtime is weather dependent.

Duties and Responsibilities: Implements technical forestry activities on state or private land throughout Kansas and Nebraska at project locations.  Conducts timber stand improvements using chainsaws and machetes, stand regeneration, and tree planting. Spraying of noxious weeds using ATV and backpack sprayers.   Assists with ground preparation, maintaining food plots, native grass plantings, clearing boundary lines, and repairing and maintaining equipment.   Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications:  Knowledge of and ability to operate tractors, All Terrain Vehicles (ATV's), chainsaws, sprayers, and farm equipment.  Basic knowledge of habitat management principles are required.  Preference will be given to students pursuing a bachelor’s degree with at least 12 semester hours or the equivalent of post high school coursework/training in forestry, wildlife management, natural resources and/or biology or six months experience in wildlife/recreation or forestry management. Valid driver's license required.
