This opportunity is a paid position/internship in an Ophthalmic clinic specializing in diseases of the retina.
Students interested will work in a fast paced clinic with a distinguished Ophthalmologist seeing 100+ patients each week, while also having the opportunity to witness cutting edge surgical procedures contributing toward valuable shadowing time. Students will gain invaluable experience helping treat patients with major diseases using classical office procedures as well as the latest diagnostic imaging technology.
- (Work-up) As the initial patient contact, you will gather patient's medical and physical history, assess visual acuity, record ocular pressure, and administer anesthetic and dilation eye drops.
- (Scribe) You will triage patients into exam rooms, and prepare patients for intraocular injections, lasers or office-based surgical procedures.
- (Float) You will schedule patients for surgery as well as perform diagnostic tests such as Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT), Dilated Fundus Exams, Fluoroscein Angiograms, A-Scan Ultrasound, Visual Field Exams, etc.
This position requires a flexible part-time commitment of up to 32 hours between Monday and Friday 8AM - 6PM. Students must have a desire to apply to medical/health professional school and/or have an interest in a career as an ophthalmic technician. The position is available as early as April 2017.
