Our summer field herpetology class will be open for enrollment soon! This is a two-week, field-based class that will be held from 22nd May to 2nd June 2017. It is split into two, five-day chunks with a weekend of rest in between. We will sites including Konza Prairie Biological Station, Wilson Lake State Park, and the Ozark Plateau, and tour collections at the Sternberg Museum of Natural History in Hays.
We will be teaching students how to conduct field surveys, which include making observations, taking field notes, photography, and tissue samples for DNA analyses, and also how to prepare specimens for long-term preservation. Students will be graded on the quality of their field notes and participation in the field.
This class is open to students of every level who are looking to gain some experience in fieldwork and field methods. Due to logistical reasons, this class is limited to 15 students.
